一个星期运动两次 exercise twice in one week

Time Duration: (V+O+)V+time expression or V+time expression+的+O
  • Duration of Action. If the structure contains an object, you must repeat the verb using the "V+O+V" structure.
  • Note that if this is an continuing and ongoing action, you should use the structure "verb+了+time expression+了"
  • 我每天看电视看两个小时     Every day I watch two hours of TV
  • 我每天看两个小时的电视     Every day I watch two hours of TV

time expression+没+V+(了)
  • Duration of "Non-Action": this structure indicates that an action has not been or was not performed for a certain period of time.
  • Please note the difference between this structure and the structure that indicates Duration of Action.
  • 两年没运动了 didn't exercise for two years

Sentences:
  • 如果怕胖,你一个星期运动两,三次,每次半个小时,肚子就会小了。
  • 为了提高英文水平,她每天都看两个小时的电视。
  • 我两年没运动了。

  • In this structure, the aspect particle 着 signifies the continuation of an action WHILE in a particular state. The first verb describes the state, while the second verb describes the main action.
  • Here 着 is similar to the use of -ing in English.

verb+下去
  • The result complement 下去 signifies a continuation of an action that is already in progress.
  • 下去 is used to talk about things continuing or carrying on. Think of it as a figurative way of "keeping the ball rolling" (downhill).
  • It can be used in a positive way as well as in a negative way:
    • Subject + Verb + 下去
    • Subject + Verb + 不 + 下去

跑不下去 can't keep running

你不愿意运动,那就胖下去吧     [if] you're not willing to exercise, then keep getting fatter
