Create an artistic "Mnemonic Poster" for a challenging Chinese character or word.
We will display these posters in the hallway outside the classroom.
CHECKPOINT 1:
Pick 5 characters or words that are challenging for you to remember or write.
Using whiteboards or scratch paper, create a "draft" mnemonic for those words. This mnemonic should help you remember the structure of the word (how to write it).
BONUS: also see if you can create a mnemonic for the sound of the word (how to pronounce it).
Ask the teacher to "approve" your draft mnemonic. Pick your best mnemonic and move on to Checkpoint 2.
CHECKPOINT 2:
Using art supplies and a piece of printer or construction paper, draw a "Mnemonic Poster."
Important: the poster MUST be in Landscape Orientation.
This poster should include:
The character or word
The pinyin (with tones) and English definition of the word
Your mnemonic for that word
Your English and Chinese names
This should look good! Make sure your poster has multiple colors, multiple sections, and is visually arresting. Decorate your poster lavishly.
Ask the teacher to "approve" your final poster.
CHECKPOINT 3:
Hang your poster up in the hallway with invisible tape. It should be placed end-to-end right next to the other posters with no spaces. The posters should form straight rows across the wall.
